Most snails are hermaphrodites which means that they have both male and female reproductive organs. These hermaphroditic snails don’t need another snail to reproduce, and they can just fertilize themselves.

However, all snails can reproduce sexually too (including the ones that are hermaphrodites). In this case, one snail inserts their male reproductive organ into the other snail’s female reproductive organ. After mating, snails lay eggs which they cover with soil. The eggs hatch about two weeks later.
