Deep-sea biologists choose which area of the sea to go to for several reasons including

      1) Nobody has ever been there before (this is a common reason)
      2) We’ve been there before but we want to see if it has changed since then
      3) We’ve been there before but we know it has changed (e.g. because of an oil spill) and we want to find out how badly affected it has been
      4) We’ve been there before lots of times (and so have a long time-series of data that is useful for predicting things about climate etc. and need to keep it up)

Currently, my research focuses on areas of the Sea called the Southern Ocean, around Antarctica (though I haven’t got to go there myself yet sadly)
