      Marlin are thought to be the fastest marine animal on the planet, with speeds of as much as 80mph!! This is because they are very muscular and very streamlined and they have to be to catch their prey.

      Only birds like falcons can really travel faster than this and when you think how much denser water is than air (about 800x denser!) maybe we could think of marlin as the fastest animal of the planet – birds at least get gravity to do some of the work

    A peregrine falcon can dive through the air at 240mph (more than three times faster than a car on the motorway!).
    The fastest land animal is a cheetah. They have been timed running at 70mhp (as fast as a driver on the motorway!). The second fastest is a greyhound, which can ‘only’ run 45mph. That’s still more than twice as fast as the man who won the Olypmic gold medal in the 100m sprint!
