      That depends upon the food chain – for various reasons different animals make up different food webs from place to place (partly because most animals are restricted in some way to where they can live)

      Apex predators (the ones at the top of the food chain) can be a wide range of animals. In the ocean, the apex predators will usually be sharks, squid/ octopuses or cetaceans (dolphins and whales)
